Maybe Im just expecting too much from a €250 amp? My previous amp was a Marshall Valvestate 2000 AVT 275, which was able to give me a nice full distortion tone, mainly with the GT-8. Its not a whole lot better through GT-8 in the power amp, where obviously the EQ isnt even affecting the sound. The best sounds I can get are by turning the bass to around 10oc, the mids to 2oc and barely any treble, but even this isnt great. I started out with everything turned to 12oc, but I find that any level of treble just makes everything sound awful. When I use the inbuilt effects, the EQ seems to be what is causing a lot of the issue. Im not sure if Im explaining that very well! Best I can describe it is like using overdrive on a cheap 10 watt amp, or through headphones plugged into an amp. I have a Boss GT-8 board, and I have been trying both using the GT-8 (through the power amp and normal input) and the inbuilt effects, and Im finding that pretty much any distortion tone I come up with ends up sounding a bit thin and sort of fuzzy. I got a Katana 50 mk2 last November, and I have been struggling to find a distortion tone that I like.
